Easy Way to Dim the Windows Laptop Screen

Working in front of a laptop with a screen that is too bright can make your eyes glare and get tired quickly. Especially if you work in a dark or low-light room.

The easiest solution is of course by dimming the brightness or brightness of the laptop screen. A dimmer laptop screen not only makes eyes more comfortable but can also save laptop batteries.

1. Using the Keyboard

The easiest way to adjust the brightness of a laptop screen is to use a special key on the keyboard. Above the row of numeric keys, there are usually rows of shortcut keys from F1 to F12.

To brighten or dim the screen you can press a button with an icon that symbolizes brightness, usually a sun icon. This button is sometimes a Function button which means you have to press the Fn key together with the brightness button to dim the screen.

2. Using the Slider

You can also dim the laptop screen directly from Windows. If you are using Windows 10, open the action center with the logo box on the lower right side of the taskbar.

Look for a slider to adjust the brightness of the screen at the bottom of the panel. Slide the slider to dim the screen to your liking.

3. Through Settings

This slider only appears in the action center in Windows 10 version 1903. If you are using an older version of Windows 10, you can access this slider via settings.

4. How to Dim the Screen in Windows 7 and 8

If you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8, chances are you don’t have the Settings menu. To adjust the brightness of the screen, you can access it via the Control Panel.

You can also access the slider to dim the screen in the Windows Mobility Center. To access it on Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, you can right-click the Start button and select Mobility Center.

If you use Windows 7, you can access the Mobility Center by pressing the Windows + X button. A Windows Mobility Center window will appear and the screen brightness slider appears in the Display brightness panel.

6. Dim the Screen Automatically

You can also dim your laptop screen automatically if the lighting conditions around suddenly change. Many modern laptops have brightness sensors that work similarly to sensors on cell phones.

Windows uses this sensor for the adaptive brightness feature. This feature can automatically brighten the screen in bright places and dim the screen in dark places.

To activate this feature in Windows 10, it’s easy. Open the Settings application in the Start menu, then select Display. Look for the “Change brightness automatically when lighting changes” option and click the toggle until it is active and turns blue.
